Application Tips

Ductability- how far can the WG be ducted?

The Wine Guardian is a fully ductable system, which means both the evaporator (cold air to the wine cellar) and condenser (warm air discharge) can be ducted, either to and from the wine cellar (evaporator side) or to and from the outdoors (condenser side). Wine Guardian airflow and performance ratings are based on the use of 25 feet of flexible ductwork per side. Twenty-five feet of flexible ductwork should be the total combined length of both air inlet ductwork and air outlet ductwork. When applying Wine Guardian to applications where more than 25 feet of ductwork is required, a combination of rigid and flexible ductwork should be considered. The maximum length of ductwork, both flexible and rigid for either side of the unit, should be no more than 50 feet. Lengths of 50 feet or more may require the use of a booster fan.

When should I spec a water-cooled WG?

An alternative to the self-contained air-cooled Wine Guardian unit is our self-contained water-cooled Wine Guardian system. Water- cooled units are ideal for most high-rise apartment complex applications where most have chiller or cooling towers as part of the building mechanical system. Another application would be restaurants or country clubs that have the ability to tie the system into the dishwashing system. The water-cooled Wine Guardian is physically the same size as our standard air-cooled model but requires no airflow across its condenser. The unit uses water instead of air to cool its condenser, therefore no outside venting or cool air to the unit is required for operation. The system only uses water when there is a call for cooling. When the temperature in the wine cellar is satisfied the compressor and water shut off. The water-cooled Wine Guardian requires two water connections, one (1) in, one (1) out, primary power, drain and wine room side ductwork connections.
