AIR INNOVATIONS DEVELOPS EXPLOSION-PROOF AIR CONDITIONER
(December 3, 2007) Air Innovations, which has specialized in custom environmental control systems since 1986, recently developed an air conditioner for harsh environments. The unit can handle the kind of corrosive, explosive (Class I, Division II), dirty, humid, vibrating and hazardous conditions that standard air conditioning equipment typically can not. The through-the-wall style unit complies with AMACA C anti-spark standards and can operate in almost any type of environment up to 55°C (131°F), including smelting plants, mines, petroleum facilities, marinas, and military facilities in desert areas.
Features include:
High-gauge stainless steel construction to resist corrosion;
Widely spaced fins so dust can pass through condensers and evaporators without clogging;
Reciprocating compressors for extended use;
A special fan design that keeps condensers dry and makes it more difficult for debris and caustic materials to stick to components;
Anti-corrosion epoxy coating that is electro-statically applied and baked on to provide uniform resistance to caustic materials;
Mechanical controls only to reduce susceptibility to electrical problems such as voltage spikes;
Easy access to components to facilitate maintenance; and,
Compact dimensions for easy installation in small spaces.
